WHAT IS SIXTYSIXSECONDS?

A Chance to Power Minds...

Our Purpose

We feel as though many kids, including ourselves, are unsure how to define themselves, most likely accredited to this generation's lack of self expressionism and self exploration. Institutions should invite students to answer the question of “what makes them unique” with encouragement to explore interests and igniting that spark within themselves.  We aim to empower students by stimulating the creativity of thought and offering the financial freedom to pursue their passions, by participating in the event, we believe that they could bring something meaningful to the world. Our event simulates a sixty six second elevator ride which is inspired by the well known elevator pitch. Within the ride participants thoughtfully articulate a brand new entrepreneurial idea, or a way to improve a social dilemma. There is no rubric and no borders for how vast students minds can run from improving local government to colonizing Mars the myriad of possibilities allows people from all walks of life to contribute. It’s an event that absolutely any high school student can participate in and be judged fairly under one virtual roof. We hope that the inclusiveness of our events encourages everyone to be interested in participating. In the end, we believe that it is our social responsibility, as fellow students, to actively educate and encourage kids to pursue their goals and become powerful agents of change.

DIRECTIONS

1-  Your task is to create the best possible business idea from your own imagination. It can be entrepreneurial or anything that solves a social dilemma or improves on a pre-existing concept, You can be as creative as you want in setting up your pitch, from creative angles, costumes, and acting. the possibilities are endless, let your mind run!

2- You must articulate this idea within a span of 66 seconds to simulate the average time of an elevator ride. The theme of this years event is stepping into an elevator with a possible investor and as a young aspiring entrepreneur you try and persuade them to believe in your mission. Once that time frame is up, they will exit the elevator and walk away with whatever you managed to express during that ride.  Anything said afterwards in the video submission will not be considered so make sure to choose your words carefully.

3- You will be judged solely on the idea and how effectively it is explained within the 66 seconds, therefore strategizing what you're going to say is crucial. Make sure it includes details on how you plan on executing the idea with enough to get the judges hooked. The more thorough you are, the better. Spend enough time planning and writing a script on what you want a say in 66 seconds. Although you may not have a script in an elevator ride you should be passionate about your idea and should be able to talk about it confidently. There is no set rubric for how the pitches will be judged. There is no way to earn a perfect score because nothing is measured in fixed amounts. The main goal sixtysixseconds strives to accomplish is allowing students to think on their own and not have to follow a set of rigid guidelines or rules. We look forward to many great submissions so let the ideas flow and have fun doing it!

4- The submission must be in video format and its file size must fit within an email (we don't need 4k video). If the file does not fit within an email, your submission cannot be reviewed. OUR GOAL

Our goal is to challenge teens to present their own business ideas within a short period of 66 seconds. By universally limiting the pitches to roughly a minute,  it completely levels the playing field so that anyone can compete equitably. The brevity of these pitches also challenges students to clearly and succinctly present their ideas.

Anyone within the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, & Connecticut) attending high school, is eligible to participate and participants can nominate peers to join as individuals or small groups. I believe that a student run event is more accessible by way of less intimidation; the flat structure of our organization promotes like-minded students to creatively brainstorm productive ideas on how to better the future. Extra emphasis will be placed on socially conscious ideas aimed at bettering underserved populations. And, using increasing online familiarity as an advantage, it allows the event to be electronically submitted and judged all under one virtual roof, which allows people from all walks of life to compete.
